WINO Tanzania is a nonprofit, non-government, media organization registered on 11th August 2022 under non-Government Organizational Act of 2002, with Registration No. 00NGO/R/3681.
WINO seeks to bridge the gaps in a media industry in Tanzania, by providing grants for Investigative Journalism, training and mentorship programs so as enable them to perform with greater professionalism and hence impact journalism, which uplift the voices of marginalized communities, vulnerable and hold the government accountable. We tell the stories that matters!
WINO is deeply troubled by the media landscape in Tanzania which is blanketed by restrictive media laws. It is also troubled by limited knowledge on investigative journalism, sexual corruption in the newsrooms, low salary payments, lack of finance to do cross border and or investigative journalism, editorial interference and structural ownership of the media houses which hinders impact journalism.

WHAT WE DO
We provide story grants, training and mentorship to journalists across Tanzania, to enable journalists to conduct IJ/ and or In-Depth Stories. We spotlight stories of impact which defend democracy and democratic values, stories which underlines to raise the voices of the marginalized group, solutions to climatic changes and human rights.
We support creative Investigative Journalism in Tanzania by using digital techniques such as data, map, drones, and satellite imagery.
We provide mentorship programs to journalism students and young media fellows to allow them to coup with the newsroom psychology, we offer mentorship classes to mid and senior media professionals on career branding in varieties of topics to renovating their career.
We advocate for media freedom by challenging restrictive media laws which hinders democracy.
